Transport

A Sustainable Transport Department focuses on minimizing the environmental impact of these activities, aiming to reduce fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and waste associated with the transport of goods and people during production.  As sustainability in the entertainment industry becomes increasingly important, the Transport Department has several opportunities to reduce its environmental footprint.

FUEL

  • Transition the production vehicle fleet to electric and hybrid models, making full use of Australia’s growing network of EV charging stations and route-mapping tools..

  • Plan efficient routes and schedules for pickups, drop-offs, and deliveries to reduce mileage.

  • Use route-planning software or GPS systems to avoid unnecessary detours and idle time.

  • Implement a strict “No Idling Policy” for all production vehicles, trucks, and shuttles.

  • Encourage carpooling for cast and crew transport — coordinate shared trips between departments.

  • Consolidate deliveries to limit the number of supply runs each day.

  • Use local suppliers and hire vehicles locally to reduce transport distance.

  • When off-grid, use hybrid or solar-assisted generators to charge EVs or run equipment.

  • Monitor and report fuel use weekly to identify savings and efficiency improvements.

  • Provide EV charging stations at base camp and major unit locations where possible.

ENERGY

  • Install solar panels or battery storage at the transport depot or vehicle base to power offices, lighting, and EV chargers.

  • Use battery or solar-powered lighting for parking and loading areas instead of diesel floodlights.

  • Charge vehicles and radios during off-peak hours to reduce grid strain and energy costs.

  • Maintain all vehicles regularly to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

  • Keep tyres properly inflated to reduce fuel consumption and wear.

  • Shut down generators and lights when not in use at the base or parking areas.

  • For night shoots, use LED floodlights and efficient lighting systems.

  • Replace older petrol vehicles with energy-efficient or hybrid alternatives as they reach end-of-life.

Waste Reduction & Recycling

  • Reuse and recycle vehicle maintenance materials (oil, filters, tyres) through certified recycling programs.

  • Avoid single-use plastics in driver kits and vehicle supplies.

  • Encourage the drivers to bring water bottles and keepcups to eliminate bottled water waste.

  • Use digital platforms for transport logs, fuel reports, and call sheets, to eliminate printed copies.

  • Recycle old batteries, tyres, and oil responsibly through approved collection services.

  • Track and report all transport data for sustainability reports.

Aknowledgement to Country

We want to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land where we work and live. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We celebrate the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders of all communities who also work and live on this land.

As sustainability becomes a larger priority for consumers and industry leaders alike, adopting greener practices can benefit the planet and position filmmakers as responsible and forward-thinking creators.
